Urbego has contributed with cases, projects and ideas to the Gothenburg lab organized by IFHP and River City Gothenburg. Together other international and local experts we analyze the current business plan and propose innovative approaches for the redevelopment of the Frihamnen, an old free port, in the very heart of the city, that needs to house a social mix of people. Housing rents in Sweden are determined by market parties without public intervention. This is done through collective negotiations according to a system of utility-value rents. But Gothenburg has decided to do something innovative and challenge the market forces and current rules and regulations regarding rental homes. It is beautiful to be part of this process of experimentation, hope and rethinking.
