In 2012 Urbego and the City Planning Authority of Gothenburg have invited sixteen young professionals to participate in a five-day workshop in Gothenburg and developing new proposals on a concrete and topical case study of the city.
The workshop became an occasion to work closely with the Gothenburg Municipality and to widen the professional network and meet new friends. This event has also been an opportunity to be involved in an emerging international platform of young professionals, to gain space in the planning debate and to enjoy the city via different and entertaining social events.
The goal of the workshop was to redesign Vågmästareplatsen, a circulation node situated at the North West side of Gothenburg, an area inscribed within the vision of the Rivercity project of Gothenburg. After visiting the site and gaining local knowledge through dialogue with members of the city authorities, the participants started the analysis of the material they had to tackle.
The proposals for the site of Vågmästareplatsen were approached from many angles, taking into consideration not only the urban forms and flows, but also
the social and economical factors and the public policies required. The workshop aimed to promote an holistic view of city development through developing different scenarios that local authorities can use for inspiration.
To a group of young professionals, perhaps the most important effort made by the city planning authority of Gothenburg was their open spirit and intention to bridge the gap between different generations of planners within the Rivercity project.
The enthusiasm and willingness to work towards a dynamic and inclusive city for tomorrow, begins by acting today.
